Those who have become accustomed to DJ Deep's deep, lush mixes (. for the Distance label) have a major surprise in store when they get this album (or its sequel "DJ Deep presents City to City Part 2"; BBE/2006). Almost all of CD 1 and much of CD 2 take the listener back to the early roots of House and Deep House music and their principal influences, namely the Detroit Techno, early Acid House, and early Chicago House schools of underground dance music (hence the titular references to cities). This retrospective mix-compilation is, therefore, recommended only to historians of underground dance music and those purists who like their House music well-aged, acidic, and minimally lean.
Mr Lee - "Pump That Body" (Deep House mix). 2. G Strings - "Motvation Song". Again, it's crate digging at its best, this time coming with rare classics from Urban Culture (aka Carl Craig), Instinct, Jovonn, Rodney Baker & The Rocking House Chicago Mob, Mike Dunn, Risque 3. Played by. Satore (Hizou Deep Rooted Music).
Yet City to City presented by DJ Deep is something to look deeper into. Right from the design of the box, City to City seems interesting. DJ Deep has put together two CDs of rare and classic house and techno tracks. Geographically speaking, this is the sound from Detroit, Chicago and New York. Tracks are both old and new ranging from 1987 to 2004, all mixed by DJ Deep. Timeless tracks like Jeff Mills "Expanded" and Basic Channel "Phylyps Track volume 1" guarantee a deep experience and the rest of the pack keep the emotion as well. CD 2 is unmixed and features eleven tracks including Glenn Underground's "House Music Will Never Die", Kerri Chandler's "I Feel It", Ron Hardy's "House Flashback" and Ron Trent's "12’ of Pleasure". Second track, Mike Perras "Keep Movin", is truly a classic and we can all see dancing to this beat and melody.
DJ Deep's quality series of compilations gives an expert cross-section of heavy house music from Chicago to Berlin via Detroit and New York.
The New Dance Sound of Detroit, an album compiled by ex-Northern Soul DJ and Kool Kat Records boss Neil Rushton (at the time an A&R scout for Virgin's "10 Records" imprint) and Derrick May, was an important milestone and marked the introduction of the word techno in reference to a specific genre of music. Once Detroit Techno became a full-fledged musical genre, a second generation of regional artists developed into techno icons themselves; Jeff Mills, Carl Craig, and Octave One to name just a few. Mills began his career as "The Wizard" on Mojo's nightly broadcast, showcasing his turntablist skills with quick cuts of the latest underground tracks and unreleased music from local labels.
Part two in the series from DJ Deep taking you through a retrospective journey through Detroit, Chicago and New York underground house sounds . City to City 3 – DJ Deep’s Journey Through Chicago, Detroit And New York’s Secret House Gems. DJ Deep presents City to City.
His journey through Chicago, Detroit and New York's secret house gems leads us to a couple of bonafied diamonds here, most notably "Utilize The Beat" by Gentle Ice, a pseudonym for none other than Chicago house God Adonis. An underground exploration of US music this may be, but Deep does hop on a Virgin Atlantic flight back to Europe on a couple of occasions, plucking Claro Intelecto's deep-as-you-like "Signals" and Marcel Dettmann's "Apron" as well as "The Box" from Berlin-based Redshape, just to keep us on our toes
Radio City Music Hall, which opened in 1932, is a New York City icon home to the famous Rockettes. Designed by architect Edward Durrell Stone and interior designer Donald Deskey, Radio City is known for its Art Deco decor, luxurious drapes, gold leaf and incredible murals. While millions have visited the music hall since it opened, many do not realize there is a secret apartment, built for Samuel Roxy Rothafel, an entrepreneur who owned some of the first successful theaters in Times Square
Get the best of your city in our newsletter, as often as you like. Few, if any, UK acts managed to nail the sound of Chicago house like Manchester’s 808 State. Not only did they find the US city’s groove in ‘Pacific State’, they also stamped on their own inventive mark, via a hyperactive bassline and a wailing saxophone hook that shouldn’t work but absolutely does. 17. ‘Acid Trax’ – Phuture. When they started mucking about with a Roland TB-303 synthesiser, Chicago trio Phuture (featuring DJ Pierre) probably didn’t realise they had stumbled across the squelchy, jagged sound of acid house – house music’s weirder, cooler, wide-eyed sibling
