Sanhedrin is a collection of studio outtakes, recorded at eight different sessions from 1994 through 1997. All of these tunes but one ("Nefesh") have been released in other takes before, but that's not really the point. This band has become one of the finest jazz ensembles of the last several decades, and there will probably come a time when folks will be drooling over any previously unreleased scraps the same way they do today over lost Monk and Coltrane recordings.

Sanhedrin 1994–1997 is a 2005 double album by John Zorn's Masada featuring previously unreleased studio recordings. Studio album by. John Zorn. Masada is as much a "songbook" as a group, comprising more than 500 relatively brief compositions. Each song is written in accordance with a number of rules, including the maximum number of staves, the modes or scales that are used, and the fact that the songs must be playable by any small group of instruments.
