Track Listing - Disc 1. Title/Composer.

Sings American Folk Songs was the third album that he recorded in the early '60s for his own Hickory label, and might be less essential than some of his other work from the era, simply because most of the songs are folk tunes rather than his own compositions. That doesn't automatically mean they're not of interest. But Acuff is simply a more distinctive talent when working with the country compositions of his own and others than he is as an interpreter of folk songs. Sandy Paton - American Folk Songs Vol. 1 and 3 (Folk Songs Of Love). 1969 printing of the Alan Lomax American Folk Songs book with lyrics and music used in a 4th grade scool music class. Ah, the good ole days when little children sang along to tales of murder, rye whiskey, gambling, jail, cocaine, and the pleasures of bum life.

The Anthology of American Folk Music is a six-album compilation released in 1952 by Folkways Records (catalogue FP 251, FP 252, and FP 253), comprising eighty-four American folk, blues and country music recordings that were originally issued from 1927 to 1932. Experimental film maker Harry Smith compiled the music from his personal collection of 78 rpm records. The album is famous due to its role as a touchstone for the American folk music revival in the 1950s and 1960s

The term American folk music encompasses numerous music genres, variously known as traditional music, traditional folk music, contemporary folk music, or roots music. Many traditional songs have been sung within the same family or folk group for generations, and sometimes trace back to such origins as Great Britain, Europe, or Africa all the music that fits between the cracks.
