The Impossible Kid is the seventh studio album by American hip hop artist Aesop Rock. It was released on April 29, 2016 through Rhymesayers Entertainment. The production is handled by Aesop Rock himself. The cover art is created by Alex Pardee. To accompany the release of the album, Rob Shaw directed an abridged shot-for-shot remake of The Shining using small figurines, which was set to the album in its entirety.

The Impossible Kid, Aesop’s 7th studio album, was released on April 29, 2016. He sold all his possessions, bringing only his music equipment, a bag of clothes, and his cat. In early March of 2016, Aesop further teased the release of this album with his 4-part satire-explanation video series featuring himself and animated characters like Kirby and Dr. Izzo. He details his hiatus in a barn, and.

Album · 2016 · 15 Songs. Aesop Rock mixes introspection and honesty with lyrical dexterity on The Impossible Kid, his most forthright record yet. After a year of living and recording in a barn, Aesop's focus and rhymes are razor-sharp, blazing through huge mouthfuls at crazy speeds while getting over his friend's death ( Get Out of the Car ), coming to grips with his abandoned visual-art pursuits ( Rings ), and figuring out the rapper’s life after 40 ( Lotta Years )-all while still trying to. find his place in the world.

Aesop Rock's second album on Rhymesayers and his first in several years is the most specific he has ever been about what he’s thinking or feeling. On "Rings," the single from his latest album The Impossible Kid and his second on indie rap mainstay Rhymesayers Entertainment, he eulogizes the visual art career he abandoned. I left some years, a deer in the light/I left some will to spirit away/I let my fears materialize/I let my skills deteriorate," he raps, splitting all of the syllables on the back end. But he still is a visual artist in his way, coiling carefully articulated sentences into diagrams, each syllable a pixel in the frame of an image

The Impossible Kid still feels like the exclamation mark on a chapter in Bavitz’s life - a love letter to the distance already run. What he does next can be just as remarkable. Ultimately ‘The Impossible Kid’ is an album that will reinforce whatever preconceptions about Aesop Rock you already hold. However, it’s also worth noting that this is most probably the least cryptic and most honest of all his records.

Eventually, The Impossible Kid shows this album version of Aesop Rock finding his place, accepting advice from rap legends like Chuck D, and " to terms with lazy eye". As an album, the record balances beautifully the representation of anxiety and isolation, as well as the confidence of perspective and experience. The production here hints at nostalgia, with the occasional 8-bit console blip, yet it always ends up in a here-and-now energy.
