The String Quartet No. 13 in A minor (the Rosamunde Quartet), D 804, Op. 29, was written by Franz Schubert between February and March 1824. It dates roughly to the same time as his monumental Death and the Maiden Quartet, emerging around three years after his previous attempt to write for the string quartet genre, the Quartettsatz, D 703, that he never finished. 15 in G major, D. 887, was written by Franz Schubert in June 1826. It was posthumously published in 1851, as Opus 161. The piece is in four movements, and is about 50-55 minutes long: Allegro molto moderato (G major, in 3/4 time). Andante un poco moto (E minor, in common time). Scherzo: Allegro vivace (B minor, in 3/4 time) – Trio: Allegretto (G major). Allegro assai (G major, in 6/8 time).

The Tokyo String Quartet's rich, ripe, and very sensitive 1987 recording of Schubert's String Quartet in A minor and its hard, tight, and tough 1989 recording of his String Quartet in D minor have always been praised in the press and admired by audiences. One can understand why: the Tokyo's tone is constantly lush and polished, the ensemble is always easy and incisive, the interpretations are consistently thoughtful and deeply committed to the music. 14 (Schubert). The String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, known as Death and the Maiden, is a piece by Franz Schubert that has been called "one of the pillars of the chamber music repertoire. It was composed in 1824, after the composer suffered a serious illness and realized that he was dying. It is named for the theme of the second movement, which Schubert took from a song he wrote in 1817 of the same title.
