While there aren't as many obvious singles as on their debut album, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion is the best expression of the Crowes' ability to take a classic, tried-and-true sound and make it their own. Track Listing.

The new album was named after a post-Civil War southern hymnal, The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion. Released on May 12, 1992, it entered the US Billboard album chart at N. The record debuted at N. and went on to sell millions of copies, and was our real success in Europe. And I think with people who are into The Black Crowes, it’s our finest record, our classic album, says Chris Robinson. Listen on Apple Music. David Alejandro Cepeda Benavides: I've listened to this album twice, i think it's solid. Not a big fan of The Black Crowes but i really like Thorn In My Pride, Remedy, Hotel Illness and My Morning Song. Uli Hassinger: Unfortunately the first two albums present the band at their peak.

Notes

Recorded in recording studios in the United States.

The CD is the standard first U.S. edition on Def American Recordings. The only difference is a hole-punched barcode.

The book is promotional only. The first half contains Chris Robinson's reminiscing about his fellow band members and the making of the Southern Harmony album. The second half is guitar tabs of each of the songs on the album. (Except for the Marley cover.)

Note that the cover of the book is intentionally distressed and 'aged'-looking. Also the pages are slightly yellowed - again, intentionally. No two are exactly alike.

Vudogal
I tried to listen again this great record, and it's still a big disappointment, this vinyl (there's 2) sounds like a bad CD, I wonder who will finally make a decent version, this record is worth it

JoJogar
Sound is great on this one though the vinyl has a nice heavy feeling to it and separating the songs for two discs seems to make the sound better, all the female vocals have been amped up and the backing instruments pushed forward somewhat, shame no bonus track's were added the cover is nice and thick the inners are poly lined standard white but the insert is a nice surprize, none in the 3 snakes reissue which had great potential as it wasn't on 12" before.

Alexandra
Pretty bad idea to put Hotel Illness in the middle of Side C (why is it an double album anyway?), as it is the traditional start of side B. Kinda annoying.

Buzatus
Is this a different pressing/mastering than the US ones? I got the US ones and they sound compressed as hell.

Kaim
And a little word on the artwork, photos on front and back cover are not even sharp... Shame

Thordibandis
I have a European pressing and it's the same, compressed as hell. I bought the tape in 1992, can't compare because it is ruined, but I have a CD burned with mp3 (320) and it sounds better... Pity

Togor
I got a replacement copy because my US ones had two copies of the A/B disc, and it sounds significantly better. I wonder if defective discs got put into a sleeve or something because it seems odd that I got a really bad copy of the A/B disc twice.

Goll
They sound just fine to me. (the european ones that is)
