Suzanne" is a song written by Canadian poet and musician Leonard Cohen in the 1960s. First published as a poem in 1966, it was recorded as a song by Judy Collins in the same year, and Cohen performed it as his debut single, from his 1967 album Songs of Leonard Cohen. Many other artists have recorded versions, and it has become one of the most-covered songs in Cohen's catalogue. In 2006, Pitchfork Media listed the song No. 41 on their list of "The Top Songs of the 1960s".

Solitude Standing is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega. Released in 1987, it is the most popular and critically acclaimed of her career. Many songs were written prior to 1987. In 2012, to mark the 25th anniversary of the album's release, Vega played four celebratory concerts in which the album was performed in its entirety

Suzanne Vega (born Suzanne Nadine Vega on 11 July 1959 in Santa Monica, California) is an American singer-songwriter noted for her eclectic folk-inspired music. Two of Vega's songs (both from her second album Solitude Standing, 1987) reached the top 10 of various international chart listings: " Luka" and "Tom's Diner". Though born in California, Vega has lived most of her life in New York City. There, she attended the High School of the Performing Arts (the school seen in the feature film musical Fame), where she studied modern dance.

Suzanne Vega has a gift for penning intimate songs, but the theatrical venue for her Dubai Opera performance on Thursday is apt because the 58-year-old New Yorker makes her regional concert debut on the back of her latest album, Lover, Beloved: Songs from an Evening with Carson McCullers. The album is a career retrospective in a way, but not of Vega’s work: it’s a tribute to one of her heroes. Vega’s 1985 self-titled debut album found her experimenting with metaphors and writing from different vantage points over soft acoustic folk arrangements.
