The Chieftains is the first album released by the Irish musical group The Chieftains in 1964. The album is now sometimes referred to as The Chieftains 1 due to the numbering system of their later albums. It was one of the first folk albums to be recorded in stereo. All tracks traditional compositions. Sé Fáth mo Bhuartha, The Lark on the Strand, An Fhallaingín Mhuimhneach, Trim the Velvet" – 7:38. An Comhra Donn, Murphy's Hornpipe" – 4:30. Cailín na Gruaige Doinne" (The Brown-Haired Girl) – 2:40.

While there's nothing quite like seeing the Chieftains live in concert, An Irish Evening marks the next best thing. Recorded live over two evenings at the Grand Opera House in Belfast, the disc captures the group's eclectic, fun, and loving approach to traditional Irish music. American country-folk singer/songwriter Nanci Griffith (a huge star in Ireland in her own right) provides sweet vocals on "Little Love Affairs," "Red Is the Rose," and "Ford Econoline

The Chieftains managed to include an album and video in the deal, and the shows went ahead successfully featuring Roger Daltrey, Nanci Griffith and step dancer Jean Butler. An Irish Evening’ received a Grammy for ‘Best Traditional Folk Album’ in 1993. Opening Medley: Dóchas, King of Laois, Paddy’s Jig, O’ Keeffe’s, Chattering Magpie – Reels.
