Desperate is loaded with anxious, energised New Wave that more than lives up to the album’s title. Chrissy Amphlett may play a pouting schoolgirl on the front cover, but she’s all fiery passion in the grooves. Highlights like the hard-charging Boys In Town and the zanier Science Fiction see the band beat Blondie and Pretenders at their own game, turning acid-tongued lyrics into breathy provocations. Desperate is loaded with anxious, energised New Wave that more than lives up to the album’s title.
