A new roots-rocking musical release by singer-songwriter and labor activist Tom Juravich paints intimate portraits of the everyday struggles and dreams of workers. Genre: Folk: Political Folk. To accomplish this, Juravich spent time listening to more than 100 workers in kitchens, coffee shops and break rooms over the past five years. On Altar of the Bottom Line he digs down deep and brings up lyrics glistening with sweat and tears, and melodies that capture these moments. From Juravich’s Rising Again, released by the Auto Workers union during the first wave of plant closures in the 1980s, through his A World to Win, Out of Darkness (Flying Fish/Rounder), and last year's Tangled in Our Dreams, (Finnegan Music) Juravich has always sung about workers fighting back in situations that try to rob them of their.

Tom Juravich is a professor of Labor Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Albums by Tom JuravichSort:By Album A - Z. Songs From the Film Out of Darkness (The Mine Workers' Story).

Tom Juravich is a capable singer and musically, the songs on this CD are adequate (it's got a certain mid-80s top 40 feel to it). Nevertheless, this album is so much more than the sum of it parts. Particular standouts are Breaker Boy, a song about children working in the mines; Ludlow Massacre (words by Woody Guthrie), which has lyrics so powerful they literally made me cry the first time I heard them, and an adaptation of Florence Reece's immortal Which Side Are You On?
