A choir from St. Paul’s Cathedral has not performed in America since a 41-concert tour in 1953. A lecture examining the WWII history of the American Memorial Chapel, as well as the important role of faith during and after the war, opened the evening. The speaker was Peter Chapman, a Chorister on the 1953 tour and author of A History of St. Paul’s Cathedral and the American People. The presentation of the Faith in Wartime Series was made possible by Baptist Community Ministries
The Cathedral Church of St Michael, commonly known as Coventry Cathedral, is the seat of the Bishop of Coventry and the Diocese of Coventry, and is part of the Church of England in Coventry, West Midlands, England. The current (9th) bishop is Christopher Cocksworth and the current Dean is John Witcombe. The city has had three cathedrals. The first was St Mary's, a monastic building, of which only a few ruins remain.
The first organ in the Cathedral had 4 manuals and 56 ranks and was built by George Jardine and Sons, one of New York's most distinguished organ builders, in 1879. Odell, then also from New York City. With the addition to the music staff of Pietro Yon in 1927, plans were initiated to replace the organs. During the building period it was determined that the Gallery would need to be extended to accommodate the new Gallery Organ. In the late 1920s, a concrete reinforced extension to the original Gallery was constructed. The Chancel Organ was dedicated on January 30, 1928. It is encased in a carved oak screen ornamented with Gothic elements of design and symbolism. It had 1,480 pipes; located on the opposite side of the Ambulatory, diagonally across from the console.
The Basilica of Saint Patrick's Old Cathedral, or Old St. Patrick's, is located at 260–264 Mulberry Street between Prince and Houston Streets in the Nolita neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, with the primary entrance currently located on Mott Street. Built between 1809 and 1815, and designed by Joseph-François Mangin in the Gothic Revival style, it was the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York until the current Saint Patrick's Cathedral opened in 1879
The choristers of Canterbury Cathedral sing at services on six days a week, continuing a 1400 year old tradition and making it one of the longest-established musical foundations in the world. Choristers live in the Choir House, an ancient and beautiful building, located immediately next to the Cathedral, and attend St Edmund’s School, where they enjoy an excellent and fulfilling academic, musical and all-round education supported by scholarships provided by the Cathedral. They also study two musical instruments and have weekly theory classes. When their time comes to move on from the choir, choristers regularly win scholarships to senior schools, either locally or further afield.
