Scumdogs of the Universe is the second album by satirical shock rock band Gwar. The album is their first album on Metal Blade Records and was released in 1990. To date, it is the band's best-selling album. As the title implies, it is a concept album about the Scumdogs' (Gwar) reign of terror on planet Earth (the song "Death Pod" explains exactly how they came to Earth to begin with).

With Scumdogs of the Universe, Gwar gave its followers exactly what they wanted: brutally aggressive guitars, abrasive vocals and gross, perverted lyrics. As twisted as songs like "Maggots," "Vlad the Impaler," and "Slaughterama" are, Gwar is never genuinely scary, but rather humorous and goofy. One of the most amusing tracks is the opener, "The Salaminizer," which finds thrash's equivalent of Spinal Tap doing a takeoff on . A's gangsta rap anthem "Gangsta Gangsta.

Maggots features operatic backing vocals by Slymenstra Hymen (Danielle Stampe), Slaughterama is sung by the band’s manager, Sleazy P. Martini (Don Drakulich), Sexecutioner is sung by the.

After all, every GWAR album is a learning experience even for fans and it takes time for the band’s music to really adhere to your tastes. But Scumdogs is the most immediately palatable and the most consistently enjoyable of their albums, as well as one of the most quotable (seriously, read them lyrics). It’s the place to start if you want to know what all the racket is about. Case in point, "Scumdogs Of The Universe. I first heard this around 1990 while in High School. I have to admit that the album cover and lyrics amused me greatly. As for the music, there really isn't a bad song on the disc. Each musician does a fine job, the production is good, all instruments are plainly heard, and Oderus belts out some great vocals.
